If you wish to install WordPress on your site, you need to things first domain registrar and a good host. There are plenty of good web-host but bad too. So here are some recommendations of mine when you go for selecting a web host for your site. Biggest challenge in maintaining a website is selecting a reliable website host. I recommend to look for following while you select a web-host for your content.
1. Bigger the better:
Go for any popular and big host, even if you need to pay a little more. because you will have a good support of users beside the host itself. most of the problems with the host will be resolved and well-known. Furthermore you will have guarantee at any point of time when problem is there with your site, you know it is yours, because if it will be problem of host then many users will be there to report it and get it rectified immediately.
2. Uptime Gurantee
Think what happens when someone tries to see your site and find nothing there or site not available or something else. Once I selected a host (3ix 1) with a very cheap plan but after uploading my site there I was stunned to see that my “site uptime services” reported me around one hour of downtime a day. So what is use of going for cheap host if your site is not there.
3. Try Before you buy
don’t trust hosting companies by what they clam or advertise. Be very very cautious. Investigate the service of that company thoroughly before join one. If that company offers monhly payment option, first give it a try for one month, and then buy it when you are completely satisfied with them, because choices are galore.
4. Windows Hosting or Linux Hosting
I can’t tell you here in detail, but in brief I would just say to prefer Linux unless you have something very strong reason for choosing windows space. You have much wide choice of application to install on Linux space, while in Windows your options are bit limited. Though WordPress can be installed on both windows or Linux space. Again I would say go for Linux space as far as possible. Trust me you need not know any Linux command to use that space.
5. Cheaper or Trusted
Be very very very cautious. Don’t fall for cheap web hosting, trust me, in most cases it will be very expensive. You may have numerous problems like downtime and support and features etc. Better pay a little more and go for any trusted host, reason is two fold, first you will get trouble free service, second even if any problem is there at least you will have support of fellow users, of course your wob host may not assist you for each and every problem.
